Through The Display Glass
This series set out to bring awareness to museum goers about the
problematic relationship between museums and Indigenous Peoples. Rightful belongings on Indigenous Peoples were once obtained/stolen and now put in glass boxes and displayed at museums. In short, colonialism.
This past October, the Met, added an art of native america gallery to the American wing. Most of the items in this collection are gifts or loans, which bypassed certain background check policies, and therefore may have found there way into collectors hands through theft, looting and illegal trafficking.
I designed and placed an updated exhibit guide using the traditional Met exhibit guide language but the altering the content. Then I placed stolen property stickers on the glass display cases in the gallery exhibition.
